Shire Hill at RHS Bridgewater
We’re delighted that our Shire Hill stone was selected by the Royal Horticultural Society for the construction of The Chinese Streamside Garden at the new RHS Garden Bridgewater.
We worked closely with the RHS designer over several quarry and site visits to carefully select stone of the required size, colour and shape to fit the design brief. The RHS team put in an immense amount of time and effort to achieve the desired effect and we’re sure you will agree that the end result is stunning!
The build is being showcased on BBC2’s “The Great Northern Garden Build” and features how The Chinese Streamside Garden was constructed, which was quite a challenge in the weather we were having at the time! https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000w171
The Garden was designed in collaboration with the local Chinese Community in Manchester and a committee of horticultural experts in China who approved samples of the Shire Hill stone as it matched their traditionally used material. The Garden celebrates the importance of the contribution that Chinese horticulture has made to British garden design over the last 300 years.
The RHS will continue to develop the garden with more cultural influences, planting and buildings to ensure it will provide a legacy for generations to come.
Shire Hill stone is a hard, buff-coloured Millstone Grit and is used in many other applications – please contact us if you have a requirement – 01663 765000 / sales@marchington.net
